Enrolment

Let your child shine at Village School

We welcome all enrolment enquiries and would love the opportunity to discuss how our school can help your child shine. We do accept enrolments throughout the year, so if you are considering transferring your child to Village School, you don’t need to wait for a particular point in time to begin that process with us.

The enrolment process

The best way to understand what Village School can offer your family is to come for a tour. We offer regularly scheduled tours, and can also organise personal, one-on-one tours. Once you’ve toured the school and had a talk with us about your needs, we’ll provide you with an information pack to take home and read, along with the necessary forms to complete an application for enrolment. We will review your application and send you a letter of offer on acceptance to the school.

Preschool-aged children are invited to participate in our prep orientation program, which commences in June of the year before they are due to start school, to help them transition more readily into school life.

School-aged children are invited to attend school for a trial period, generally, 4 weeks in length, to determine if the school is a good fit for them and if they will be able to settle into our different ways of doing things.

Once the trial is complete, and we have discussed with you how your child is managing school life, we will confirm your child’s place in our school community.

Prep / Foundation Enrolments

Enrolments are now being accepted for prep, also known as foundation, next year. Come along to one of our group tours or book a private tour at a time that suits you. See how our current prep children are thriving in our nurturing and stimulating environment. Speak to our Prep teacher about the program we offer and find out more about our part-time prep program that runs for 3 days per week, perfect for those wanting to ease their child into school life.

The enrolment process

Once you’ve toured Village School and decided to enrol your child in prep, the next step is to complete our application for enrolment.

When your application has been accepted, we’ll then invite you to come to school in person, where we’ll also give you:

  • School records forms to complete

  • Information Booklets e.g. Readiness for prep

Your next step will be to attend the prep orientation program, which commences during Term 3 in the year before your child starts prep.

Prep orientation program

New families for next year are invited to attend our prep orientation program as part of our school’s orientation program. During Terms 3 and 4, students attend monthly 45-minute sessions, with the final session in December being a half-day program when all students across the entire school are in their new groups.

At this point, the new prep students are also assigned their “big friend”, a Year 5 student who will be their special advocate as they settle into school life.

The orientation program is designed for the whole family and is a great opportunity for everyone to gain a greater understanding of our school’s philosophy and curriculum. You will meet our staff as well as become acquainted with other new families. The children will participate in planned activities each month while all parents will meet for a series of talks. By the time your child starts school in the new year, they will be very familiar with the environment and already be starting to build new friendships, ready to embrace everything that school life has to offer.

Part-time prep program

If your child is not entirely ready for a full-time prep year when they finish pre-school, we also offer a part-time prep year to ease the transition into school.

This a lighter prep program, where children attend only 3 days per week, but participate fully in school life and learning. This provides an option for children who may otherwise need to complete a second year of kinder. Our part-time prep program may also be suitable for younger children who are ready for school, and for whom pre-school would not provide enough challenge or stimulation.

Once your child has completed the part-time prep program, they will then move into the full-time prep program the following year. We will discuss the best prep options for your child with you when you come to school as part of the enrolment process.
